Current Employee - Machine Operator in Winston-Salem, NC

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

If you're in need of money, the pay is good to start and you have access to ALL the overtime you could possibly want. The benefits are great, company stock usually does very well and there are a LOT of employee discount programs, including vehicles

Cons

The plant where I work is very unorganized as far as how well they manage the inventory for spare parts for machines, some of the simplest least expensive things can be out of stock when you need them, making your job unnecessarily harder, also the training program needs some work and there needs to be a program for tuition reimbursement for floor workers to advance their careers...strangely there is one for the people in the office (most of which have to already have some college to be IN the office) but the floor people are on their own in this area

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train people better, keep parts in stock and it gets 5 stars

    Cons

willingness to work long hours and travel where ever and when ever you are needed along with a willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job completed to the customers satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

grow your Research and development groups and spend time thinking from the end in order to prevent technological supprise from both internal as well as external competitors.

Former Employee - Global Work Place Solutions - Mid-senior Position in Milwaukee, WI

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. Mid level people can be great despite terrible managers. Learned a lot because of survivor-like atmosphere.

    Cons

No work life balance, lack of growth opportunities, no resources -- sink or swim. No one is accountable but want to micromanage and then point fingers if anything goes wrong. No training. Expect more layoffs if Management above GWS does not take an interest and fix the systemic problems in the operating model.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No appreciation of its people. Seen as arrogant in FM marketplace. Senior management will throw you under the bus after not supporting on tough to impossible assignments. GWS has lost its focus - too much overhead, internal bureaucracy, no accountability.
