I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Interesting work for the position, and managers who seem to be sincere in their support of personal and professional development. Company well-positioned in emerging markets. Flexible about work hours and work-from-home while remaining focussed on how employees can add value.

Cons

HR was somewhat obstructionist / rather rule bound. Salary offered was low for the industry, education and level of experience. Very difficult to maneuver to get things done, because the management hierarchy is so complex and responsibilities are unclear.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management structure is so complex we spend more energy on internal coordination than on serving customers. That aspect is the biggest dis-satisfier and the biggest threat to our success.

Not a bad place to work if you can stay out of the crosshairs.

    Pros

Benefits are good if you can stay long enough to accrue. Some managers have been trained how to get the best out of their employees, and are a pleasure to work for.

    Cons

Rather than using existing employees in different capacities, upper management uses periodic mass lay-offs, which are a waste of human capital and company resources. Some managers are not trained in effective leadership and psychology, and make decisions based on emotion instead of logic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage and hold managers accountable for recognizing unique skills of their employees and promoting job advancement.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The job is pretty stable as it produces a high volume of product coming in and out of the door. The benefits are pretty good as it has a good company match and other discounts on random purchases you may want to have.

    Cons

They don't want to put in the time and energy to develop you to get to the next level. Management does a poor job communicating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management doesn't do a good job communicating as there are a lot of last-second decisions made.
