I have been working at Johnson Controls

Pros

Large stable company. Profitable and financially well run.

Cons

Despite being a large company (130,000 employees) the company is split into 3 divisions with numerous sub-divisions. Collaboration and synergy between the sub-divisons is derisable. Very little integration of systems and processes so it can feel you are working for different companies. Senior management tend to be imported from the US - to do Europe - and focus on short-term cost cutting to boost profits rather than sustainable sales growth. The company is in the right space but is seriously underperforming despite the opportunities.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop and stick to strategies that will grow the company not kill it.

I have been working at Johnson Controls

    Pros

JCI is a Fortune 100 company and it's something you can really feel while working here. It is a global workplace in a true sense of the phrase and you get the opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds

    Cons

If you really want to make it to the top, you have to be in Milwaukee. As much as it is global, the core is still very much in Milwaukee and there is little space for people from other parts of the country and the rest of the world. Also, the standard of salary increases is below par... There are promotions that occur when they are earned, but the benefit from them other than the recognition itself is very, very minor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You always say that your people are you most valuable asset, and I couldn't agree more. However, it is difficult to live this opinion when you don't show it through financial means. It's not only the ability to attract the cream of the crop, it's the ability to retain them as well that will make this company even greater.
