I worked at Johnson & Johnson as a contractor (more than an year)

Pros

Good pay, good hours, good opportunity to learn the business side of design—creating formal presentations, talking with marketing, brand strategy, and so on—has put me in a better position to take on my own bigger clients or seek a promotion at a different company. And the GSDO hires good people, top to bottom, so you will have the opportunity to connect with very talented and kind individuals everyday.

Cons

Unfulfilling design work—lots of good ideas get lost along the way because often the lowest common denominator wins out. There are no benefits for contractors and little opportunity for full-time employment. The contract length is two years and it has to be through a clumsy 3rd party staffing service.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management did a good job, I think, within the parameters they had to work with…

I worked at Johnson & Johnson as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Great benefits, compensation is often respectable
    - Clear career path, rotations are highly encouraged
    - Small company feel, big company resources

    Cons

    - It can be very political at times. People develop friends at various subsidiary companies and it is nearly impossible to get a position over another candidate if they have friends there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Continue to have one on one meetings with the junior employees, providing feedback and advice. Very encouraging and makes you feel part of the team.
