I have been working at Johnson & Johnson full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Good family company.
Good development programs out of school.

Cons

Cutting down summer hours, seem to cut more and more benefits.
At times management relays too much on intangibles when evaluating employees.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and reduce bureaucracy. Focus more on innovation at the employee level. Take tips from google and amazon. Stimulate creativity and innovation, ie empowered cross functional teams. Cut back on Pharm R & D. Pharm does sales and marketing best, acquire the products. Though consumer R&D does well, keep that strong.

I worked at Johnson & Johnson as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Fantastic individuals who are passionate about what they do, and their contributions to society at large. Working with J&J looks great on resume. Flexible hours. Fun camaraderie. Beautiful campuses. Excellent working environment and career opportunities. Great benefits and perks.

    Cons

There's a lot of waste here which is affecting the company's bottom line. Too much $$ is spent on unnecessary expenses. It's near impossible to transition from contractor to employee, because they rarely hire them. Hiring process is biased - Most outsiders don't stand a chance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

2 year cap on contractors is atrocious, but understood. But fight harder to keep excellent contractors instead of letting them go (headcount), and replacing them with new ones. It is inefficient and disruptive.
