Good company to work for but with caveats, as it struggles with changes for several years

I worked at Juniper Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good employee comp packages and benefits
    - Depends on the groups and leaders, but groups with good leaders are generally good places to work.
    - Fairly good support for work/life balance in many (but not all) parts of the business.
    - Fairly strong routing and SP business based on strong engineering.
    - Recent re-orgs have brought some needed changes in consolidation of functions, eliminating redundancies and some long overdue flattening of the org. But more is needed, see cons.

    Cons

    - Hire and fire environment, several months of active hiring, then hiring freeze following by RIF, then starts over. This happens 2-3 times a year. People are often RIF'd based on title or internal politics, not performance or capabilities.
    - Weak leadership. Constant land-grabs by VP's, frequent re-org and shuffling of roles and responsibilities.
    - Company vision and strategy has been in flux for several years. 2014 direction under new CEO is not clear and does not inspire confidence.
    - Free spending atmosphere. Great deal of waste. Still plenty of room for redundancy reduction, consolidation and up-leveling.
    - New CEO seems to be in place to drive short term stock gains, possibly positioning for an exit/acquisition.
    - Security business, once a market leader, has been contracting and now seems to be in controlled spin-down or spin-out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Clarify vision and strategy.
    - Be more forthright on focus and even more so on what will not be supported (i.e. security and WLAN business).
    - Change the executive culture, bring in execs more concerned with business success than titles, land grabs, and partying at company expense.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
