Great networking experience, but ultimately felt overworked and underpaid.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Company is young, making it a dynamic and often fun workplace to be. Got great exposure to a variety of different industries and had the opportunity to meet many talented individuals both within KPMG and through client interaction.

Cons

It takes at least 3 years to go from Consultant to Senior Consultant, with little to no pay increases year-to-year. A 60 hour week was not uncommon, with no bonuses or overtime to compensate for extra time spent at the office. Upper management can at times be distant, though this probably varies from department to department. As a result, turnover is extremely high (thereby keeping the average age of the company quite low).

Advice to Management

Better career development would help to ensure that entry-level professionals stay on past the 1-2 year mark.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great start to my career, learned a lot about the backgrounds of different companies. Learned which type of industry I want to be in. Work with many different people.

    Cons

Hours are extremely unpredictable. Could travel last minute unexpectedly. Didn't show much appreciation for their employees.

    Advice to Management

Show more appreciation. Add more incentives to want to stay longer.

  2. Prestigious, but long hours, lots of stress, and lots of know-it-alls.

I worked at KPMG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can learn to become very competent at auditing, tax preparation, or at another service by working in one of the firm's service lines.

    Cons

Blame is a one-way street that runs only from the top to the bottom. If you go over budget in terms of hours as an underling, it's your fault irrespective of whether the budget was unrealistic to begin with, which it always is because issues will come up on every engagement, but no one ever takes that fact into account.

    Advice to Management

Like all for-profit companies, the firm's main goal is to increase revenues year-over year. To achieve this increase, the firm's business strategy is, to some extent, to earn money by volume, which it can only do spreading thin its resources . The firm, however, also expects perfect work product. If the firm made a priority of providing better client service by allocating more resources to each client, perhaps it would be able to achieve its earnings goals without sacrificing the quality of its work product.
