Pros

Work with young people. Exposure to industry management. Professional training. Ability to take extended periods of time off outside of busy season.

Cons

No work life balance. Little opportunity to steer your career in your desired direction. Some (not all) of the people beg the question: "How did you get hired?" Compensation is less than impressive (in spite of what the magazines say). You are underpaid, so does it really matter if the firm pays for a treadmill once a year.

Advice to Management

Give individuals more control of their career so that can pursue their interests and fulfill their potential. Why not give the best associates the ability to choose their clients? Consider paying more to attract better candidates than the other Big 4. It is pathetic that KPMG is the least reputable firm in the US, when it thrives in other countries.

    Pros

overall work environment is good . like the level of commitment to ethics and compliance. Love the flexible leave of absence options offered and the medical benefits are awesome. Also one of the very few employers offering pension benefits.

    Cons

you are mostly on your own. If you are a new comer , there is no way to get on to projects; everyone picks their own friends to work on projects. I have seen that while there are some people "supposedly part time" on several projects while others with the same skill sets sit on the bench,. Also juniors are held responsible for their utilization while there is no accountability for that pinned to the management.

    Advice to Management

have more structured way of developing and utilizing the human resource. You hire well, but you dont have an organized way of using or maintaining the people, especially in SSOA.

  2. There is no better start to a career in accouting/finance than that of a Big 4 accounting firm.

    Pros

Exposure, Salary, Experience, Responsibilities, Knowledge, Moveability, Travel,

    Cons

Long work hours, no control over own schedule

    Advice to Management

The mentor program is a great idea, but some how implement a way that the mentor and mentee will be on the same engagements and interact more.
