Former Employee - Audit Trainee in Sofia (Bulgaria)

I worked at KPMG US as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Very useful experience as one actually performs some of the responsibilities of a Junior Audit Assistant
    - Networking opportunities with CEOs, CFOs, directors etc. of different companies
    - Excellent experience for someone who wants a long-term career in audit/accounting

    Cons

    - Long working hours with NO overtime pay
    - Low overall salary considering the long working time, competition, and pay for similar positions at other companies
    - Restricted to take the ACCA exam levels by employment contract
    - Most non-internationally educated managers are narrow minded and unwilling to help
    - Non-existent opportunities for temporary international experience (exchange) with KPMG firms based in other countries
    - One has to learn most things on his/her own since supervisors are busy most of the time
    - Hard/almost impossible to switch audit groups (no internal mobility) and thus, to learn to what industry one is most suited

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Resolve some of the issues mentioned above in order to make the working environment more satisfying
    - Change the culture “If you are not satisfied with wage/conditions, you can leave. We can always find someone else.” You are losing too many high quality and experienced employees each year…
