I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

1. Good people in the local office.
2. Decent benefits package.
3. Challenging work environment.
4. The original culture used to be very nurturing and productive.

Cons

1. Annual performance review process is a joke. Hard work and dedication get you nothing. Promotions are based on strategic need and politics, not merit.

2. Too many chiefs, not enough Indians. Unrealistic expectations combined with being perpetually understaffed has lead to stressful working relationships with upper management.

3. Organization's reliance on layoffs and outsourcing has damaged its' core heath and weakened the underpinnings of its' operational effectiveness and culture.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior leadership need to make the heath and continuity of the IT organization a priority. Weak upper management and politics continue to impact ROI. Stop laying off people to pay for your mistakes and mismanagement.

I have been working at KPMG US full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Transparency from upper management on direction of firm, performance expectations, and compensation

Provides excellent training opportunities on various industries and technical competencies including Accounting, IT, and Risk Managment

Strongly encourages building mentoring relatinships amongst staff level and management level employees

The firm values teamwork and diversity and their committment to these attributes is not fake like a lot companies. They truly value the input of people with different backgrounds and experiences and share knowledge throughout the firm unselfishly.

    Cons

Job requres high volume of travel since they have a national approach to servicing Adivsory (consulting) clients.
Limited control over which clients you get work on. Unless you are at the Partner level or generate your own projects at clients there is a limted amount of control over which clients or industry types you will work on. This could be a challenge if you are trying to develop into a subject matter expert in a particular industry
