I worked at KPMG US full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Great management in my small tax group, had a fantastic mentor who was always willing to meet, fun firm activities (if you're into that stuff), the Managing Director always had his door open and was very approachable, upper level management worked just as hard as staff

Cons

Long hours (as to be expected), not much mobility between groups, especially within Tax

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it easier for the staff to do rotations, as it will increase their overall skill set and keep them from leaving the firm

    Pros

Was never able to quite figure any out

    Cons

Cult, if you don't fit their mold like a Stepford Wife, move on...individuality and innovation is frowned upon. Zombies and robots welcome.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and look around, stop burying your head in the sand

I have been working at KPMG US full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Teaches you the basics of what a good consultant: dependability, timeliness, accuracy of work, the pecking order, and networking

    Cons

If you're not a self-starter, it can be difficult to get ahead here. "Be hungry" is a good motto to have.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some time to develop your staff, develop some methodologies or tools to empower the staff, and show some more appreciation. The last one goes a long way.
