Current Employee - Software Engineer  in  San Francisco, CA
Current Employee - Software Engineer in San Francisco, CA

I have been working at Kabam full-time for more than a year

Pros

Firstly, the company is fast growing and there are lots of things out there to learn and to do, still feels like a startup. If you are self-motivated and with careful eyes, you can find yourself a lot of responsibilities;
And work life balance is great; The overall atmosphere is quite relaxed.

Cons

Reorganization happens more often recently;
On average the compensation is good but it doesn't make big difference to recognize individual contributors;
Sometimes the duties are not distributed evenly and engineers have to do much more to cover things out of their scope;
Though publicly announced, career advancement path is not implemented effectively.

    Good for MBAs. No tech or design bench strength

    I worked at Kabam full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Management team isn't evil
    Employees treated well with free lunches and dinners.
    If you're coming from the banking industry or have an MBA or don't really care about making games this could be a good place to learn.

    Cons

    Management team is disconnected from the company.
    Culture has gone to hell since they fired the head of HR and not replaced him.
    No career advancement path (they just keep talking about it).
    *Lots* of office politics. There's the "favorites" who get the perks and everyone else who get re-orged.
    Lots of talk about quality but no one believes it because no one does it.
    Endless pivots and reorgs. People say the company has ADD.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Find real senior programmers or a CTO. The guy they think is the most senior programmer is a bad joke.
    Put someone besides MBAs who don't know games in charge.
    Stop talking about quality since there's never time for it.

    I worked at Kabam full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Plenty of room to build, input is welcome
    Some very smart people
    Lots of change
    Great selection of food, catered meals, lots of social events

    Cons

    Constant change in direction
    Lack of experience at the top, lack of planning and hasty/shoddy execution in most endeavors
    Reacting instead of planning and acting
    Goal posts constantly moving

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Slow down and stop reacting; be proactive
