Current Employee - Registered Nurse, Per Diem in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente as a contractor for more than 10 years

Pros

Good benefits, great salary for a nurse. Union good for maintaining equality. Many various trainings required, and paid to attend these trainings.

Cons

More and more stressful over the years. Started in 2000, and best job ever for a floor nurse. However, at this time the paperwork (all computerized) has become so numerous and complicated, that you are spending less and less time interfacing with the patients, and more and more time on the computer during your shift just to complete your work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please streamline the paperwork!

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Believe in the Kaiser model for health care.

    Cons

Poor management who rely on threats and micro-management. Believe there is a shift in manangement at Kaiser Vallejo with the idea of getting rid of older experienced workers. A lot of conflict between workers and management -the politics makes it difficult to concentrate on patient care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your nurses. Soon the baby-boomer nurses will retire and you will be left unprepared.

If you don't mind towing the company rope for every move you make, this is the place for you.

I worked at Kaiser Permanente full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work life balance is for the most part ok.

    Cons

You can not do anything without checking through layers of management. If you think outside the box, work somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give people some autonomy and let them make their own decisions.
