Current Employee - Registered Nurse in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (more than an year)

Pros

High Pay, excellent benefits, strong union. Most people don't leave Kaiser, and if they do, they come back (or at least try to). I've only been a nurse 1 year and I make $44/hr + night differential.

Cons

They don't really train nurses in specialty areas....so say you work on a Telemetry or Medsurg floor but want to get into Labor & Delivery, well most specialty areas like Pediatrics, L&D, NICU, ICU want experienced nurses and it's hard to get a position in those departments without experience, even if you've been a nurse in a different area.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training opportunities for specialty floors.

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great learning and advancement opportunities in many career fields.

    Cons

Procedure and amount of annual raises for non management levels didn't seem fair compared to those in leadership positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give fair treatment. Give credit where due, perhaps a bonus, especially when you're fully aware that you're putting the responsibility of 2 or more staff members on one person. Understand and give exceptions to deadlines in those overloaded situations.

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Work-life balance is Kaiser's primary benefit to its employees.

    Cons

The Internship is a little disorganized and still needs to mature to attract talent from the better graduate programs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create work plan for interns to focus towards, check in to provide feedback to guide intern to desired outcome
