Current Employee - Registered Nurse in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (more than an year)

Pros

High Pay, excellent benefits, strong union. Most people don't leave Kaiser, and if they do, they come back (or at least try to). I've only been a nurse 1 year and I make $44/hr + night differential.

Cons

They don't really train nurses in specialty areas....so say you work on a Telemetry or Medsurg floor but want to get into Labor & Delivery, well most specialty areas like Pediatrics, L&D, NICU, ICU want experienced nurses and it's hard to get a position in those departments without experience, even if you've been a nurse in a different area.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training opportunities for specialty floors.

I have been working at Kaiser Permanente full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

High quality professionals; excellent salary and benefits; great location; opportunity for career advancement; on-going educational opportunities; excellent leadership at KP

    Cons

Such a large organization with three distinct entities: health plan, hospitals and physician group that you would expect decision-making process to be slower than at other organizations

I worked at Kaiser Permanente as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Paid learning to stay up with industry standards. Management is very organized, so tasks and deadline expectations are very clear. Great opportunities to join multiple teams.

    Cons

Repetitive and very business-oriented. Some projects stood still for a long time due to the necessary approvals which tended to be very slow-moving. Lots of meetings.

    No opinion of CEO
