Pros

The people and clients were for the most part a pleasure to work with, a great place if you genuinely enjoy helping the underserved.

Cons

Management has allowed a very hostile atmosphere to continue, it has been that way for years with 51% turnover in 2008 being an indication. Very little management and diversity training for upper level staff, gossip is not only allowed, but encouraged.

Advice to Management

Setting an example at the top that back biting and underhanded behavior will not be tolerated would go a long way for morale, and would keep the good people from leaving.

I have been working at Kalamazoo Family Health Center full-time

    Pros

The staff are helpful, supportive and knowledgeable. With 7 locations in Kalamazoo and its surrounding cities, Family Health Center is one of the fastest growing primary care organizations in Southwest Michigan. The company recently opened a $9.3 million expansion of its facility which will allow us to double the number of patients we service each year. It is qualified to offer its providers a Loan Repayment Program (LRP) through the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). Full time and salaried employees enjoy full benefits including: medical, dental and vision benefits, 403B retirement savings plan, supplemental life insurance, short and long term disability and a flexible spending account.

    Cons

There can be surges in community need.

    Pros

Working level employee's really care about each other. Working level employee's care about the patients and do all they can to serve the community. Some, not all, great providers.

    Cons

executive level leadership is horrible. condescending. once you are on their not so good side because you may disagree with an ever changing policy you will find yourself squeezed out. Only 2 people really allowed to lead in leadership. Same board member president and "vice" president over several years. Nothing will change until the upper level leadership is shipped out . Don't think you as one person can change the culture of the organization, because you can't. the manipulation is overwhelming.

    Advice to Management

listen to you people. so many people with great ideas, but if it isn't leaderships idea it's a bad idea until your idea is stolen from them to present as their own.
