I have been working at Kaplan

Pros

Flexibilty, good benefits, probably one of the fewer jobs a person may be able to retire from.

Cons

Very top managment, seems to have lost site of the people and have made the company about money.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It takes many bricks to hold up a sky scraper and each one is a important as the other.

    I worked at Kaplan

    Pros

The people who work at Kaplan are intelligent, hard working and enjoyable working partners. There is a sense of working towards a common goal. Most people tend to put in the level of work that you need to put in to get the job done, which is a lot. There is also the excitement of working for the actual industry and world leader of test preparation.

    Cons

The main challenge with Kaplan is feeling that one is overworked while underpaid. The entry level salaries are quite low, and quite discouraging, and raises are given on a percentage basis. Most of the field jobs are entry level, and there is a high level of turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start investing in the quality employees that you have, and try to keep them. Then you will not lose the wisdom of your more experienced employees.

I have been working at Kaplan part-time for less than a year

    Pros

They provide paid training and staff social events every once in a while

    Cons

It should be a crime how much Kaplan charges for private tutoring or classroom instruction, and how little of the money goes to the teachers who are expected to spend significant amounts of time preparing for lessons (about 1 hour of prep to 1 hour of teaching) and not compensated for travel costs. Private tutoring costs upwards of £175 PER HOUR. Teachers are compensated around £15 per hour. You do the math. I never thought I would have a Marxist dilemma until I started working for Kaplan...

Not a reliable source of income if you're looking for a side job. Only 1 or 2 classes a month and random stream of private tutoring assignments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation needs to BEGIN at £40/hour for SAT/GRE/GMAT teachers.
