Pros

Kaplan University is an employer that gives its employees very good wages. The pay is good as are the benefits. Benefits include health, dental, and enrollment discounts should you wish to take classes. The overall environment of the job can be fun and celebratory at times. While you are there you feel appreciated.

Cons

The company has unfortunately been going through layoffs for the past three years. Management does its best to puts employees at ease, and if you are laid off the company still does it's best to help you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to build a strong culture and value and please continue to pay well and keep employees happy.

    Pros

Benefits are good, and you get to take classes for free, but the education you receive is not of quality at all.

    Cons

The admissions advisor position at Kaplan University is a pure sales position. If you think that you are going to be working in academia, think again. It is a high pressure sales environment with an extremely uneven playing filed where nepotism and favoritism are at their maximum level. If the management happen to like you (for whatever reason), then you are in luck, there is nothing that you can do wrong, even if you don't hit your sales goal, they will figure out a way to keep you. BUT, if you are not a favorite, either because you refuse to lie on the phone to perspective students, or refuse to mislead people on the phone, then good luck. This is not a professional job for someone who is college educated. Do not waste your time with them.

Decent first "real job", but that's about it.

    Pros

It's nice to say you help put people in college for a living. After awhile, you'll know a little bit about a ton of different careers. The people are really nice. Benefits are good, pay is ok. Good starting job for a younger professional.

    Cons

Kaplan used to be a fun, energetic place to work with the ability to grow monetarily based on sales (enrolling students). People were making money and life was good. Unfortunately that's no longer the case. Ever since for-profit schools like Kaplan and its competitors have had to reform their business model because of sketchy recruiting practices, its just become a place to collect a paycheck, with no ability to grow within the company--especially financially--yet it is still a hardcore sales job. In a true sales job, you are compensated for the business you bring in. Not at Kaplan. What's worse is that you are still expected to produce at a level that back in the day would have made you, at minium, a 65k/year sales rep.

Some managers are nice, but many of them are not qualified to be in their positions. For example, there are individuals in senior management that do not possess a college degree, yet are being compensated very well (110,000k + salaries) especially compared to regular sales reps. This is particularly stunning considering that to even have an interview to work at Kaplan one must have a Bachelor's degree.
