I have been working at Kearney & Company full-time for more than a year

Pros

Lots of fun company events, like poker nights and a picnic.
Ticket raffles for concerts and sporting events.
You get paid for any extra hours worked.
Great benefits.
Fantastic HR department.
If you are trying to get your CPA certification, the company will help pay for any CPA prep class you want to take.
Free parking nearby the office.
Any extra commuting expenses (like driving to a client site) will be reimbursed.
This company really cares about each of its employees and that's definitely reflected in everyone's work ethic.

Cons

Traffic can be pretty bad, especially if you're driving in from some of the farther counties. Metro may be a better option.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're doing a great job, so keep it up!

I have been working at Kearney & Company

    Pros

    -Still growing
-Parties and social events are pretty fun (a lot of firms in the DC area have those though)
-Stable (a lot of firms in DC are pretty stable because of the government)
    -Reimbursement for commuting expenses

    Cons

-They may pay "for all hours worked", but it isn't exactly great for your career when the partner gets mad when you bill over 40 hours
-Salary is 25% lower than comparable firms. They get people to accept an offer by promising the extra pay for above 40 hours, but there really aren't many opportunities for that. You CAN make quite a bit more than your salary IF you are lucky enough to get on a project that has opportunities to work more than 40 hours.
-HR and admin may be helpful, but you have to wonder if they know what they're doing sometimes
-They had to send out a survey asking everyone why there has been higher turnover lately (you think the problem might be that they have to ask everyone what the problem is???)
-Benefits aren't that competitive with comparable firms (pay more for health insurance, 401k isn't great, no merit bonuses, bonuses for certifications and referrals are lower, tuition reimbursement is lower)
-Management whined and complained during the annual staff meeting about "the rumor mill", in reference to people speculating about what is going on with the firm, what projects they will be staffed on, etc. How do you expect people to react when their project is ending or they are rolling off their current project or they're just sitting at the office doing nothing and they've received no communication from anyone about what they should be doing or what to expect? There is no formal communication process for these things (like an assigned manager or periodic updates) and it is very easy for people to feel lost or out of the loop.
-They're just growing too quickly and don't seem to have a cohesive plan (if any at all) about how to handle that growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're not a small company anymore. Stop treating it like one. You're going to need a more formal structure to be able to support the kind of growth the company has been experiencing and you're seeing more people leave as a result of that.

Overall Kearney and Company is a good place to work but promotion potential became a concern for me.

I worked at Kearney & Company

    Pros

    Work-Life Balance
    Warm and Friendly Office Atmosphere
Management is responsive when employees are dissatisfied with assignments
Plenty of firm events that help build morale

    Cons

The firm is not as structured as others are
    Promotion potential was unclear
The firm is often a sub to other firms and employees don't always feel like they're really a part of Kearney

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clearly define what the different positions/job titles are at the firm and offer a description of each
Make sure employees know what position they can be promoted to
