I have been working at Kent State full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Most fellow employees are friendly. Some professors are friendly as well.

    Cons

Drackonian style of management at University Facility Management. Promises of job audit and review are seldom kept if it means they will have to pay you more money for the job your performing.
They will not recognise any trade license even from the Department Of Commerce. But they will take advantage of your knowledge if you let them.
Moving up the ladder is through the "good old boy system". If they have an issue with you, you will never move up.

Change your management style. Be progressive not regressive. Who needs a velvet glove that hides an iron fist!

I have been working at Kent State

    Pros

Kent State has a nice campus, with research labs and classes. The small classes allow for more interaction and the professors have enough time to help you at the individual level. The stipend is not as competative as some of the other universities, but it is nonetheless enough to live a comfortable graduate student life.

    Cons

Kent State is on hour south of Cleveland, making it common to have commuters. It is an additional cost of time and money to drive down for meetings or courses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

So far so good. Maybe teleconferencing should be used more to communicate to surrounding instituitions that are connected academically or otherwise.
