Approves of CEO

Pros

Work with the best engineering talents from design, planning to actual execution of a shipbuilding project. The job also provides high level of satisfaction to individuals that enjoys working in challenging environment.

Cons

Tough working condition may deter those that are not used to working under the sun for long hours in protective gears. This is especially so for females, and there is indeed a shortage of female officers in the company.

Advice to Management

Management at the top level enforces strategies that looks to improve the operations of the company. However, certain technology and innovation that have been introduced in other industries may not be applicable to the marine industry especially if the staff do not understand how to fully exploit the effects and benefits of the technology.

    Pros

Many opportunities for getting exposure to different job functions. There are some good senior management staff who are great mentors.

    Cons

Too much office politics. Immediate supervisor and his boss back stabs each other. Department heads does the same. Too much time is wasted playing these games. Sucking up pays but drives off good people.

    Advice to Management

Really need some good shake up and change management in the organization

I worked at Keppel FELS as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

world largest oil rig builder. plenty of career opportunities abound in a conglomerate that employs more than 39,000 employees worldwide. good chance to get exposed to the harsh working environment to the shipyard industry. as they say, if you can survive here, you can survive anywhere. compensation(bonus) as a perm staff is amazing. u get up to 10-11 months on a good year. good training ground however i dont see it as a positive workplace to stay beyond 2 years

    Cons

culture - shipyard culture can get very rough and uncivilised. daily meetings often result in shoutings and finger pointing rather than coming together as a team to solve problems. very strict hours to adhere to for production team. eg. must get out of office before 730am or photo will be taken by duty officer/manager. strict lunchtime hour of 1200-1300. which means if you finish work at 1245, you only have 15 minutes to eat horrible work-life balance. plenty of ot and wkends burnt

    Advice to Management

change the rigid rules such as lunchtime hour and make it more flexible. dont just shout and berate your subordinates when something happens. lead by respect rather than lead by fear
