    Pros

For a civil engineer, you can't get much more of an extensive and diverse experience. Not to mention, the starting salary of any new-hire is very difficult to beat. You'll learn how to build and estimate all types of work at a fast pace. If your personality fits in with the Kiewit Culture, you'll find friends within the company that will help. You won't find many "corporate politics" here. If you do a good job, you'll move up. If you do a great job, you'll move up fast.

    Cons

On a job site, prepare to work 12hrs per day. Also do not be shocked if they ask you to come in for a Saturday every now and then. Most assignments are "sink or swim" and often you'll be told to "get it done" without much direction or leadership. If you fail to perform, you'll get the brunt end of an intimidating manager. Depending on your situation, you'll have to rely on peers for training and guidance as opposed to a mentor/boss. Also, remember that Kiewit is a large company and your project assignment will determine your experience, so everyone is different.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate unnecessary work tasks- this will help get people home to their families at a normal hour. Give a clear and concise scope to newer employees, and give them the opportunity to seek help.. Try not to overload anybody. Also, a pat on the back never hurt anybody.
