Pros

Kiewit is a diversified construction contractor with great resources that allows the company to perform big work. While the company excels on risky projects that are stressful, the people make the job seem effortless. There is opportunity for rapid advancement and Kiewit has a good training program for 0-5 year employees. Kiewit does not have the highest compensation package in the industry but the needs of the employees are typically met with greater rewards coming after 10 years. The safety of all personnel is a high priority.

Cons

Kiewit is a heavy civil contractor first. Historically the work is not in one location and therefore most of the employees are required to move job to job. Dependent on location, seasonal work windows, and the practice of schedule acceleration can create very long hours. Kiewit is a large organization with many districts (regional offices) that joint venture often. While there is healthy competition between these districts, there also exists a heated political arena.

Advice to Senior Management

Listen to your people. Give them what they need. They are your number one asset. They are not as interchangeable as the equipment.
