Pros

Good benefits
Steady work
Good safety program

Cons

Below industry average for pay
Incompetent management
Nepotism
Managers seem to be set on demeaning and trying to make their better employees look bad to take the spotlight off the fact that they have no clue or ambition to do their job; when usually that employee is more qualified to do their job. This is perpetuated by the fact that upper management is totally lacking in their job duties. It almost seems that they are " covering" each others backs. There is almost no onsite supervision from managers on up the chain of command. As long as the manager pencil whips his paperwork on the computer and forwards it to the proper people

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs better supervision to make sure they are doing their job properly, and more training. Pay scale should be increased to attract better applicants, and to keep the qualified employees we do get.

    Pros

Flexible and interesting work, good people and good job security for those who perform well. Company did not layoff a single full time employee during economic downturn and continues to maintain a growing presence in the industry. Competative pay/benefits

    Cons

Constant change and turnover at the middle management level. Low employee morale. OVerworked staff at every level. Mixed messages at multiple levels of management. No training opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more clarity, less general guidance and feedback to employees. Offer training to employees to increase individual value and team productivity.

I have been working at Kinder Morgan

    Pros

    -Stable
-Benefits on par with anywhere else
-Once hired, it is borderline impossible to lose a job in KM

    That's about it.

    Cons

-Promotions are scheduled 10 years in advance. If you see a new job on the job board, chances are somebody is already picked, HR is just going through legal motions
-A LOT of not very bright people in management just because they stuck around from the beginning and were moved up because somebody else left. Pretty much the only way to move up and is to stick around long enough until somebody leaves/dies.
-The "we don't need a Cadillac if a Chevy would do" mentality leads to people shooting for the Yugo level of performance
    -Micromanagement is insane
-Young motivated ambitious people leave left and right because of the "yes" man culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the inventory of your employees. By paying people below the industry average, you hire 3 people to do something that one person with proper skills can do.
