I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Helpful coworkers
    new activities staff is awesome!
    residents are wonderful

    Cons

mandated overtime (threatened/retaliated against if not able to work over)
    short staffed 95% time
management stays in office, does not help on floor
no raises for the past 2 years for floor staff
    broken/unavailable equipment
residents/families are promised things that staff cannot deliver once admitted
Unable to inform corporate of complaints because per the newest administrator corporate has already been "warned" employees are going to complain.
No set out orientation period, have pulled nurses to the floor when short staffed even when orientation not complete
Administrator violates hippa laws when employees call in sick.
can have anywhere from 10-35 residents to one nurse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work a day in the life of the floor staff that you treat so poorly. There should not be LPN in management positions when RNs are available and better qualified. The latest administrator treats staff so horrid. She often yells and threatens her employees and if you say anything she replies she's not threatening you she's "holding you accountable" . This used to be a wonderful place to work, but over the past couple years it has severely deteriorated.

I worked at Kindred Healthcare part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Liked my coworkers and liked my patients

    Cons

New Administrator is a Tyrant. If you want to try to fit 12 hrs of work in a 8 hr day. Rarely get lunch. Receive no raise and loose PTO time for this year and next-consider them. Not to mention no supplies or equipment to work with. Upper management does not listen and is so out of touch about the work load it feels like you are working in a 3rd world country.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the office and ask the employees how to get the work done. Do not mandate if your relief does not show up you are staying. Listen Listen Listen
