I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Coworkers and the patients',and their families are awesome. The work you do for the patients is rewarding, because they really need you,and they rely on you everyday! They are very appreciative as well!.

Cons

NEVER believe it when they(the powers that be) say that they have an "open-door policy"! Any employee who is courageous enough to speak out openly,and/or complain about the working conditions,or any other issues concerning the hospital, suffers the consequences with RETALIATION, in some form or another. You will suddenly become an instant TARGET for management. No matter how good you are as an employee,it will not help you in their eyes. Management sticks together,so if you are going to work there, and you want to keep your job,be prepared to put up with the poor treatment by management, and the unfriendly environment, and say nothing ,or just do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.It is not worth it to jeopardize your job and it doesn't change things anyway. (Just some good sound advice)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people FAIRLY,and also, treat people the way you would like to be treated. RETALIATION is so wrong!

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Caring employees - invested in their patients recovery. Quarterly competencies on equipment, transfer methods. Keeps skill levels up.

    Cons

Kindred initiated an IPOD system to log in/out patient times - employees can spend up to an hour trying to get all of the patient minutes logged and distributed properly. Feel like micromanagement. Employees pushed to average 85-90% efficiency - yet this ipod system waste time and is RUDE to have to do in front of patients - makes patients feel the focus is on minutes/cost. Barrier with seniors - have to explain we aren't texting and that this actually part of logging them in. THEN we have to duplicate the distribution again in the hospitals computer system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the IPODS! Hire a Patient Care Coordinator. The DOR micromanages the department and is NURSE not a PT and does not understand the time and investment into a patients recovery that a PT has. It is not the same. Initiate a 360 review of managers.

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I liked the people I worked with. They all WANTED to do a good job

    Cons

Worked for Kindred 6.5 years and had NO pay raise since the day I started.
Company seemed too driven by profit. It seemed all about the budget, not the employees.
    High turn over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that the cost of replacing a valuable employee is more than doing the right things to keep them.
