I have been working at Kirkland & Ellis full-time

Pros

Great benefits, good flexibility, interesting cases. Free market system allows involvement in a variety of types of law and working with various practice groups. Great group of people.

Cons

Very little transparency in management. Rank and file know little about what is going on at the corporate level in Chicago. Partners don't communicate that well with staff about the state of the firm.

Mostly wonderful co-workers, but managment does not know how to manage.

I have been working at Kirkland & Ellis full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Immediate co-workers are great, partners and most of the associates are extrememly nice and friendly, a few happy hours and staff lunches, but mainly the benefits package.

    Cons

Managment has no trust in employees and creates a hostile work environment between the staff where throwing anyone you can under the bus to save yourself is the norm. There is also a high school clique feel to the managers where if they do not like you personally, for whatever reason, the smallest thing will be used against you to end your position with no warnings given. Thus there is an extremely high turnover in regards to the staff as there is absolutely no job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the correct way to manage - earn the trust of your employees by showing them that you respect and value their hard work. That is what causes people to work hard, not ruling with fear and the constant threat of being fired.
