I have been working at Kmart

Pros

decent employees, the store is very good about scheduling around school. they do give pretty good hours sometimes.

Cons

definitely not a store that i would want to stay at long term. store management is decent, but corporate seems to be a mess. kmart does not invest nearly enough in keeping the store clean, and when it comes to replenishment there can't be a worse store.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

streamline replenishment! i hate having to tell customers that we've been out of a product for months, and worse yet, that i have no idea when we are getting another order in! Get rid of those stupid rewards cards and focus on keeping the store clean and hiring friendly, outgoing associates. That will build customer loyalty way more than 1% back on all their purchases.

I have been working at Kmart part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Fellow employees are all in the same situation with the company so everyone, for the most part, gets along. No Pros towards the store or company itself though.

    Cons

All cashiers (despite experience and time with the company) are paid a flat rate of minimum wage with only increases coming from your ability to sell "Smart Plans" and "SYWR". Commission from those aren't much whatsoever. The corporate office interceded and changed store policies three times in my first TWO WEEKS!! How can a new employee be trained and be expected to perform properly when everything they were taught is changed basically every other day? The stores are never properly staffed because the store management relies on a computer system to schedule employee hours. No one gets any opportunity for raises, cashiers are hired and then used for floor staff because of bad scheduling, and employees and customers alike hate the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your staff what they deserve, have them do what they were hired to due, and stop relying on the computer systems. These registers freeze and don't work half the time and the schedules suck!
