A decent place to work for part timers.........

Whitehall, PA

Current Employee – been working at Kmart

Pros>Friendly assistant managers
>Coworkers are very helpful
>Employee discount (20% off clothes, 10% off everything else unless its on sale)
>Benefits even for part time employees

Cons>Store managers are a revolving door who chance everything around to their liking even if it throws everyone else off
>minimum wage pay and raises are nearly impossible to get
>Part timers are treated much better than full timers even if they have been there much longer
>Receiving associates seem to get the blame for everything
>The district managers are very condescending and tend to pick apart flaws even when things are looking mostly good.
>Unfair call off policy. You need to call in 24 hours before your shift starts or its counted as an "Infraction" which if you get six of them you get fired. They expect you to be a psychic and know you are gonna feel sick the next morning.
>Loyal workers are taken for granted and not recognized for putting up with a lot of aggravation on a daily basis.
>The mystery shoppers reports are too harshly judged. Even if we get an overall good score, the one bad thing is highlighted and circled with a permanent marker as if its getting shoved in our faces.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think the entire management staff need to treat full timers better and recognize they are the backbone to the store prospering and without them part timers would not know to to handle things.
I would also say the call off policy needs to be changed because its very unfair and unrealistic. People don't always get sick the day before so it not right that if they call off the day of they risk getting fired even if they really are sick and in no shape to be working.
Workers like to see their hard work be recognized instead of just expected of them and I think taking loyal workers will be the downfall of the company as a whole.
