Pros

It is almost impossible to get let go with this company. The job security is nuts! If you are bad at your job at the Phoenix branch, then they will just put you in the brokerage department.

Cons

The office politics are ridiculous. They do not look at the statistics anymore. They only listen to what the worse employees say. There isn't much room for advancement anymore unless you transfer to the Phoenix branch. They also give out your personal cell phone to every driver. You have no personal life working for this company. Expect to work 11 hours a day averaging 6-7 days a week

Advice to Management

Look at the statistics again like one used to and hire a second shift.

    Pros

Good equipment, quick pay turnaround if you're on top of paperwork, and lots of frieght. As the company is large enough to take safety seriously there are few arguments with dispatch over hours of service and availability (see Cons). Knight was among the early adopters of themore modern corporate trucking outfit, correctly seeing regional and dedicated as big growth sectors, and providing a solid dispatch to keep a well paid driver pool happy, their customers satisfied, and making money even though the industry's turbulant times.

    Cons

Because Knight is essentially a modern corporate outfit (unlike say, driving occassionally for a friend of a friend who owns a rig, or seasonal work like harvest crews) it is frustrating to deal with the administrative oversights. If your Hours of Service limits your elected hometime you're going to get stranded. I never got home on time. And as their fleet is large enough truck-frieght saturation means fewer miles overall, and as such, many days spent in strange places with very little to do. They also spy on their drivers, contracting with "safety" companies that follow drivers,, videotaping driving, etc. As the practicalities of the job generally put the rules in a precarious light, I found it frustrating to deal with this. Example: You'll have to run overweight on produce loads, especially fruit, and the company leaves that up to you. You'll sit if you refuse the load, and then have to circumscribe the scale, which makes for awkwardness all around if the "safety" monitor is reporting to dispatch your route.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management is keep putting former drivers behind desks-dispatch that has a practical understanding of otr life just makes sense. I've never heard of a veteran driver liking a cocky kid who got a desk job right out of college, and human resources (generally) uses the degree thing as too obtuse a litmus.
