I have been working at Knights of Columbus

Pros

Great products, excellent comraderie among agnets, work life balance is fantastic. If your a catholic gentlemen who does not have tremendous ambtion you should be ok. You can make 50k without killing yourself as long as you have a decent territory

Cons

If your GA is not top notch you will be out of the business pretty quickly. He has to know how to manage upper management. Also, retirement plan is the worst I have ever seen, because you don't see it. Its a big secret, I assume because it is so bad. If you are not a top 100 hundred performer be prepared to work till your 90. Good thing is they will let you stay on as long as your producing. Fraternal rules prevent working with non-members in any capacity.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your agents become brokers. KofC products are hard to beat, so let the agents utilize a broker so they can write business outside of the catholic realm. It will help beef up revenue and prevent loss of agents who want to make more than 50/60K per year. 800 members in one area are completly different demographically than members in other areas.

    Pros

With a good General Agent life can be very fulfilling as a field agent. Very good incentive trip annually. Many agents earn very good income levels.

    Cons

Too much pressure and very little support from Supreme for the GA. Over the last five years complimentary comments are virtually non-existent and negative comments from senior management are abundant. Absolutely no oversight by Supreme Board - good ol' boys club attitude permeates the New Haven office and upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to recognize good managers and agents; remember that although business is important, it is also important to remember that the K of C is a Catholic, Family, Fraternal organization which should practise a culture of compassion, high moral and ethical values and treat the field force with the respect they deserve rather than continually talking down to them.

    Pros

Work For the Best Boss in the Universe (God) and the second best boss (yourself).
Help Catholic Families and help the Church
Flexibility in work hours which helps balance the large amount of work.
    Building relationships with member families.

    Cons

The Life Insurance field is a tough field to get established in. Commissions are uneven and money can be tight when you are first starting out. The variance in the work duties are both a blessing and a challenge as is the need to be self motivated. There can be high levels of stress depending on how things go.
