    I worked at Kofax full-time

    Pros

It doesn't get any worse than this.

    Cons

If you think the Bluth Company in Arrested development is the most dysfunctional business in Orange County think again, it's actually Kofax.

The executive management team are all fighting, like pigs round a trough. Most know they are not talented enough to join an IT leader and are aware this is their last big payday. The head of marketing has just left. The head of sales is replaced on an almost annual basis. As stated elsewhere I can confirm that the execs drain $1000+ bottles of champagne at their annual beano in Vegas while the staff have to share rooms. Now I understand why the Orange County airport is named after a cowboy.

Tellingly, revenues have been flat for a long time and will continue to be so while staff turnover is so high and innovation is so low. Actually innovation is non-existent. They’ve spent two years of development resources on repackaging the same products with no new features.

Belatedly Kofax has realized that their core capture market is declining and have begun to spend their small war chest on new companies with all the due diligence of a drunken sailor on shore leave. Sadly however these companies are way outside the skill set and comfort zone of the senior managers tasked to carry out the integration and put together a coherent product strategy. As a result the company quickly shrivels back to what it understands; capture. Capture is nice and simple and despite what it thinks it is Kofax is still a simple capture company.

I would not recommend Kofax as a career choice, unless you enjoy conflict or have no ambition, in which case it’d be perfect. It’s a ruthless, bullying, stagnating, kleptocratic organization where drones are promoted and challengers are fired. If you currently work there, take control of your career and get out before they fire you.

    I worked at Kofax full-time

    Pros

Slightly better than driving a cab,or delivering Pizza, but without the side benefits.

    Cons

I've worked in start-ups and fortune 500 companies, but never for a company like Kofax. It's a mid-sized company (about 1000 folks), but the execs think they are working at IBM. That's because a lot of them did work at IBM and similar companies and boy do they take the baggage with them.

Unbelievable internal processes, these guys would be slow to react to the end of the world. The structure removes any opportunity for individual thought. Any spend larger than a starbucks coffee needs VP level approval, but at the same time the execs have a big blowout in Vegas every year, sipping thousand dollar bottles of champagne while the employees get by on a pathetic per diem and sharing rooms.

My advice to anyone looking to join is to do to your local emergency room and ask for your head to be examined.

My advice to investors is turkeys are for Thanksgiving. You don't need another in your portfolio unless you dig investing in antiques.

To the employees on the ground. You are great folks, and are propping up a thankless company. Search your feelings. You deserve better. if you don't, see the 'new employee' comment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop recruiting has-beens from other local blue-chips, and try recruiting people from innovative companies and actual ideas. Then sack yourselves en masse. Nobody will come to your leaving party except other execs,so everyone at VP level going at once makes a nice tidy solution.
