Pros

-I don't know of any other retailer that gives management every other weekend off.
-Competitive salary for college grads new to the career world
-MIT program
-Paid salary during training
-Paid relocation
-The company is very innovative, always looking for new technologies and resources to improve the day to day functions of the store

Cons

-Though work life balance is a plus with Kohl's, it's still retail. Long and inconsistent hours will always be a part of the job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company as a whole needs to be less "conservative" with payroll.

An above-average retail company to begin career with.

    Pros

    Competitive pay
    Above-average vacation time
Caring upper-level management (from my experience)
Great exposure opportunities for college grads

Develop your management style/techniques while working for a retailer with national notoriety. Great people with great skills reside within the organization; these people are accessible and willing to help you grow. Lots of networking opportunities, which is key in moving up in the company.

    Cons

Business is profitable due to low facilities/associate payroll and high profit margins
    Heavy workload
    Ambiguous merchandising direction
    Long, long hours

It takes a lot of extra face time to get noticed. Bad visits could really set you back, depending on how you take the criticism. There are not enough hours in a week to get everything done, which can be frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More payroll, please! Stores will look better, service will be better, sales will increase, consumer/brand perception will improve. Update your technology to today's standards.

    Pros

    Nice cafeterias
    Decent employee discount in stores
    Benefits (but nothing special)
High salary - to hook you in, beware the signing bonuses!
Incredibly silo-ed. Do NOT perform a task outside your jurisdiction.

    Cons

Incredibly bad management, and a ton of layers
    Long hours
    Treat employees like slaves
If you're not in upper management, expect a 4'x4' cell for a cubicle, if you're lucky

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slaves in 3rd world countries are treated better
Do away with 3-4 layers of middle management.
Do away with silos, get teams working TOGETHER.
Fund a support group for ex employees!

    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
