I worked at Kohl's full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Associate/ Employee discount, discount can make clearance merchandise a more wonderful deal to purchase
Massive learning potential, knowledge growth
Great sales, deals, even better for a kohl's charge customer who is an also an employee
Small commission for signing up customers for a Kohl's Charged card - approved or not
Structure, Daily goals for credit, email and sales can be motivational and inspiring
Culture and values when utilized, A team events (Events for charirty, volunteer work with the company)
Room for career advancement to climb the hierachy if you can suck up to management
Advancement through Manager in Training program with your bachelor's degree if you don't mind relocating in the U.S.,If approved ability to transfer to any of over 1000 stores in the U.S
Benefits for full and part time associates, Tuition reimbursement for full time employee students after 1 year, Yearly employee survey, Yearly inventory, Montly clearance markdowns, Merchandising directives, planograms, and maps that guide you in placing product, StoreNet internal to the company

Cons

Politics and favoritism - don't promote your employees based on who you like or know but on how hard they work, dedicated, loyal, detail oriented they are
Neglected fitting room 5 item limit, Fitting room best practice carts (corporate enforced but impractical and annoying to push and utilize)
No commission for any other type of sales, Low recognition for employees, No structured training program for supervisors to use in training new associates
No salaried positions aside from 3-4 store managers
Attendance policy is unfair
Half hour lunch is too short
No business cards for supervisors and full time employees, employees with seniority in the company
Low pay for supervisors, Micro management on the wrong people
Slim to none recognition, Denied transfer ability in the U.S for certain managers in the district
-I was the only one in my store with a college degree and I even told my district manager to her face and she did not care or seem to want to help me establish my career in a managerial postion. As a long time employee and someone who grand opened one of the three stores I made my 2nd home for a massive amount of time nearly a decade, I had a lot of love in my heart and as my first job the attachment was definitely made. However, career growth stops at a certain point and favoritism is obvious and ridicuoulous. My Bachelor's degrees appear unimportant to the company even though they have a manager in training program and store management intern program for graduating and graduated students.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add or create more salaried positions for full time/supervisor positions and/or for those people with seniority after 3-5 years. The time clock should not be a deciding factor for termination. Emphasis on education. Exterminate favoritism and politics. If retention is so important, why would you get rid of your best person? Create a time limit on the return policy, customers highly abuse it. Too much yes you can for customers, not enough yes you can for Employees, where the YES YOU CAN for employees, the backbone of your company?!

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours if going to school/have another job
    Coworkers are awesome!

    Cons

    Hours fluctuate consistently
    Credit goals are ridiculous
Management plays favorites, regardless of your work output
Store isn't organized unless upper management comes to visit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give some kind of incentive to get people to apply, regardless if they're approved or not. People don't want to apply to see if they're approved if they fell it's ONLY going to ruin their credit further. It'd be easier to hit our credit goals if we had the ability to give 10-15% for applying. Also, let people who actually care and do a good job have more hours. Why do you need to have 100+ people working in a store when 50-60 of them call out sick on a consistent basis?

    I worked at Kohl's full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is a nice cafeteria, and you get nice discounts on clothing, there is nothing about the job that is a pro.

    Cons

At the corporate headquarters the management is not on the same incentive structure as the IT programmers. This causes a lot of problems in that quality is not part of the equation only if the deadline is met.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove some of the layers of middle management and listen to your IT professionals.
