I have been working at Kraft Foods full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Overall, Kraft is a great place to work. Management seems to truly care about developing their people and shows a genuine interest in your career progression. The salaries are good for this industry and comparable to other food companies. Work life balance is excellent and you can enjoy a flexible work schedule. The biggest perk is being able to take home free products to your family and friends. There are also numerous morale boosting activities where product is also often given away.

Cons

Just like any large company, you sometimes have to deal with politics, but it doesn't seem as bad as it was at a food company I left 5 years ago.

I worked at Kraft Foods full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Clear company vision (lots of great communication, especially in anticipation of the split). Generally the people are good/honest, nice and smart, enjoyable to work with.

    Cons

The company has become incredibly lean and mean - mostly to satisfy the investors. There is too much work, not enough people to do it without putting in 60 hours a week, regularly. "People" are not at/near the top of the company's values. A great company for someone who has a "I can do anything someone throws at me" kind of attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize people are burned out and don't feel comfortable taking their vacation time. A summer picnic to rejuvenate everyone is not the answer. Please hire more people.

Great work-life balance with flexible hours, but loves to outsource TALENT!

I worked at Kraft Foods as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Kraft is a great company that treats their employees great with no micro-management. Employees have the opportunity to work in an environment with a high flexibility of work-life balance. There are core hours that you must be available (10am-3pm) but you can put in your hours any way you like. For example, you can work your 8 hour day from 7-3pm or 10-6pm if you'd like, but you cannot do 12-8pm. Understanding management, fun events & training, clean facilities and environment, constant training, a push to work for goals and strive to success (professional development focus).

    Cons

All those things I said in the Pros? Most relate only to full KRAFT employees. Sadly, they CONTRACT most of the people who work for them to avoid paying any sort of benefits (Security, Facilities, Food service, engineers, marketing, lab techs, admins, IT help [got a problem, call the helpdesk...in India who have no clue wha you are asking about and takes a week to get your issue resolved], etc). It's really sad and in a company this big sometimes you are just a number... espcially with the recent split from Kraft-Mondelez where they forced many people to move to Chicagoland or leave the company. Tsk Tsk, Kraft. For a company that is exempt from taxes, you would think they would have a little more money to put towards real talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What management? There is constant turnover in upper-level management.
