I worked at Kroll Ontrack

Pros

People. Some of the brightest, nicest, most creative people you will find anywhere. A great company in 2005. Good bonus package, okay pay and benefits. Creative work environment.

Cons

Two sales of the greater Kroll corporation to MMC and Altegrity have proven to be the undoing of this once great company. In both instances, the executive branch of each of those organizations thought they knew more about Ontrack's business than Ontrack did, resulting in mismanagement of everything from people to projects to customer relationships. While it is true that Ontrack was a small company trying to grow into a larger one, the new suitors had no idea of how to make that properly happen. Couple that with top-down management and a bad work/life balance and the result is the state of the company today. Literally hundreds of people have left the company for all of these reasons and more.

    I have been working at Kroll Ontrack

    Pros

    I enjoy the complex work, the freedom we are given, and monetary incentives tied to job performance. Great teamwork, and management support for difficult client demands. Extremely civil respectful winning corporate culture that we should strive to keep.

    Cons

    Fast moving complex work can be stressful. Work life balance can be challanging but management and colleagues help with this. It takes too long for low performing employees to go and this makes more work for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management should dedicate focused blocks of time to solving the larger company problems (days, weekends) and not so many back to back 30 minute meetings. Introduce more internal efficiencies. Small inexpensive adjustments can save hard working employees time.

    Pros

    Superior products and services, great people, deliver on promises to clients, new management is promising - old guard is gone, support from parent company to succeed

    Cons

    Difficult to advance, private equity can be uncomfortable at times, loss of knowledge with some who have left

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Think strategically to grow revenue, force change, recognize and exploit employee strengths where you find them
