If you're considering a job with L-3 it's a good place to start your contracting career -- go for it!

GSE Mechanic (Current Employee)

I have been working at L-3 Vertex

ProsThe money is okay when compared to other contractors and it can be pretty laid back if you work hard and do things right the first time. You'll probably learn a lot about your job and you'll have the opportunity to advance if you apply yourself and build a good reputation.

ConsNot everybody gets along and you need to mind what you say and to where you say it. Some people out here will smile while stabbing you in the back so watch out. L-3 could do more to rid themselves of these types, but they're so short staffed it's impossible for them to cut away the deadbeats now.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't offer hollow promises to your employees like more frequent vacations. That just pisses people off. So make sure you have enough contractors to enforce such a policy. Word spreads fast in the contracting community, and soon you'll have nothing but a bunch of unqualified losers representing your company. Treat your people well, and find ways to reward those who make an effort to go above and beyond what's expected.
