I worked at L.L. Bean full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The discount offered on expensive merchandise.

    Cons

Your schedule is at their beck and call, they dangle the employee store as a plus, but all they offer are well worn returns. You must wait in line for chance to enter and fight with other employees over the crumbs thrown at you.

I worked at L.L. Bean full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Big company, good perks (discount, employee store)

    Cons

Extremely tedious 2-week training period for a job that could be taught to qualified applicants in 3 days. I recognize that some people may need the lengthy training process but Bean should identify top candidates and offer an accelerated training program for them so that they aren't wasting time and company resources. There should also be incentives in this department for seasonal workers who are high-functioning -- there's currently no incentive for high volume processing or accuracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Select people with a background in teaching to conduct the training - the two individuals who trained my group had been working there a long time but did a poor job. They tried hard but they weren't effective communicators and morale of my group suffered as a result.
