I have been working at LA Fitness full-time for less than a year

Pros

Coworkers are nice and helpful

Cons

Hours: 9 to 10 hour shifts with a mandatory 1 hour break.
Weekends: working both weekend days or at the least 1 so kiss your social life good bye.
Marketing: You have to do all of your own marketing with no help from the managers.
Scheduling: it's like pulling teeth and frowned upon to request off for a family function or vacation.
Upward movement: is promised if a hard worker, but being a weekend manager works 12 hour shifts Friday Saturday and Sunday's with only one day a week off!!!!
Sales tactics: Sales tactics are beyond heartless. They tell you to sell the gym for what its worth! $149.99 one time initiation fee and $29.99 a month isn't worth any gym when there is a similar plan with a $25 intimation fee and a $29.99 a month is a better deal. I feel like we are stealing from the members constantly.

I worked at LA Fitness full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Free Gym Membership. And you can bring in friends and family when you workout 2 max...

    Cons

    - Minimum wage.
    - Management gets all your leads.
    - You rarely make more than your minimum wage because your managers take your leads and send you out marketing all the time so there's more opportunities for them to be the ones making sales in the club including your leads.
    - THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE MONEY IS TO PROMOTE. OTHERWISE ITS MINIMUM WAGE ! The Commissions they promise you rarely get you more than minimum wage.
    - YOU EITHER GET minimum WAGE OR YOUR commission SALES IF ITS HIGHER THAN YOUR Minimum WAGE 40 HOURS. NEVER BOTH. and when you do make it your commission sales are never more than 100$ more than minimum wage.
    - COMPLETE RIPOFF>
    - THEY TRAIN YOU TO PRESSURE SELL EVERYTHING
    - Management gets all walk ins when your working, you cant get any of the new enrollments when you are at the club unless the person specifically asks for you
    - To get promoted to actually make money you need to bring in over 1000 in sales every two weeks and your managers get most of that commission sign-ups. Then you get promoted after a few months to assistant manager in sales where you make 500 every two weeks plus your commissions and bonuses for making your sales goals.
    - as a sales counselor your main purpose is to get the Asst and Sales GM to meet there sales goals you don't make money and when you make them money you get promoted.
    - NO HEALTH BENEFITS

I have been working at LA Fitness full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

People are great. You can get people to take your classes so you are not tied down if you want to take a few days off or need to vacation. The facility is very nice and usually I can work at a gym close by my house. You can take your kids with you to the gym, free daycare is great.

    Cons

The pay is not as high as other gyms. Typically the ceiling is $25 regardless of time with the gym, time in the industry or certifications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the pay for instructors. Provide free membership to immediate family members.
