Former Employee - Front Desk Staff in Minneapolis, MN

I worked at LA Fitness part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Free membership, free classes, get to know personal trainers & discounted personal training, and same people come in every day that you get to know

Cons

Terrible pay, terrible hours, management and the business itself is so shady, training is awful, all anyone cares about is "numbers" and not people at all. Creepy people at night when there is only 1 front desk person. Sales people yell at front desk staff when they lose a sale. Just kind of soul sucking. Management and sales are constantly trying to con people out of money and the sales people constantly lie to people and stick you with covering for them after they close the sale.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

At least pretend to care about your employees and your customers. I only met 1 employee in a management role that seemed to care at all and he was SO overworked and devalued it made me sad.

    Pros

Great experience if you love hard-closing people and selling in a fast-paced environment.

    Cons

The hours are real demanding and can make you feel like you live to work unless you know how to work the system and go home right after you hit your budget. The base pay is a joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay out more base to your management so you can have/retain quality individuals.

    Pros

Room to grow if one puts in the amount of work needed

    Cons

Sales staff work a somewhat inconvenient split shift from 9am-1pm and from 4pm-8pm. Those who wish to get promoted are encouraged to work through their split shift by managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do your best to reduce politics in the work place

    Doesn't Recommend

    No opinion of CEO
