Pros – Other than the pay and benefits (medical, retirement, leave, etc.) I can't think of many pros. If you're from the south end, it's a shorter commute than going to Seattle..
Cons – It depends on the particular budget, but typically there is minimal training offered to employees. The last two IT managers had an attitude that training was a waste of time.
Present IT management is inexperienced which is causing morale problems with the IT personnel.
Management is not doing any long range technology planning.
LESA is behind the curve on software technologies and has no plans to catch up.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire an experienced IT Assistant Director that knows the value of leadership rather than management by crisis.
Believe in your employees.
Believe in training to help your employees work to the best of their abilities, not merely fill a time slot.
