I have been working at LSI

Pros

Good salaries and excellent benefits, although merit increases not real good averaging in 2 - 3% range. Flexible work scheduling, although workload isn't always paced with resources resulting in major rushes. Fairly predictable between reorganizations.

Cons

Company is always in some reorganization or other - average is about one major change, typically with staff reduction every quarter. Company is pushing to move more technical positions to low cost countries in Asia and India. Management seems to lack any coherency in long term strategy. Recent announcement of sale of Storage Systems to NetApp followed several years in which storage systems was a key "synergy" of the company, now it isn't. Employee morale isn't all that hot due to all the reorgs; many employees tend to lay low in hopes of avoiding getting hit by a restructuring. Many actions undertaken by senior management appear more geared to improving stock price than by improving underlying business.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lack of long term strategy combined with over focus on stock price to the exclusion of impact of decisions on employees is leading to burnout among the troops. Confidence in senior management is low. Many employees respond positively to employee surveys simply because if they don't they know their boss will be tasked to go to everyone in their staff and give them pep talks and the employees are tired of those. Do not be surprised if you get hit with massive turnover as the employment market improves in the next few years.

    I worked at LSI

    Pros

The best reason to work at LSI is it provides for long term financial security and the job does not require any strenuous effort.

    Cons

There is not room for career advancements as the difference in experience from the analyst position to the sr analyst positions is quite a few number of years. Although they want people with GIS experience someone in Highschool could do the job because its simply point and click using a mouse and data entry. No real analysis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please make the job duties be more than: Locating features on a nautical chart, Identifying features on a nautical chart, inputting information on the feature found in the nautical chart if you are hiring people with GIS degrees. If you cannot change the job duties than management should consider people with a highschool degree only or 2 years toward an undergraduate degree., because those same people who are less educated can still do that very easy work.
