I have been working at LSU full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many professionals who want to make LSU the best they can. Lots of people coming in who want to work hard.

    Cons

Many long-timers in power positions who have no connection to the wider field and its development. As a reflection of education in Louisiana, Baton Rouge, and the like, the mid-to-upper level managers are very consistent with the norms and expectations for education and innovation in Louisiana. If you want to make something out of your life and with your career, consider all your options and be thorough in your investigation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow. Develop. Listen to others around you. Take courses in ethics!

I worked at LSU as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    Free room
    Free food
    Decent pay
    Made lots of friends

    Cons

The red tape and fluffy protocol and projects from the higher-ups was a continual thorn in my side. This job greatly interfered with my schoolwork and freedom of life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the crap, make socials and programs bigger and better, but less frequent. The 3-4 programs a week turned residents off from attending. Stop with the touchy-feely "connections," and PC talk. I made great connections with my residents by doing my job to the best of my ability, and by not giving preferential treatment to people ResLife deemed special because they had it tough: being gay, or black, or another minority type. Having someone tell me I am a victim in no way makes me a better person. I did the job for two years, and gained 50 pounds. The residents were easier to deal with, even when causing trouble, than certain ResLife authorities were anytime.
