Pros

The work is very challenging, you get 2 free cases of beer a month, people are friendly. That's about it.

Cons

1. you constantly feel that you will be backstabbed by the company.
2. salary treatments are bias to how well you suck up to senior management instead of actual merit
3. bonuses are now impossible to attain because they set targets to levels that are not realistics or attainable. And if you do get a bonus, forget about over performance unless you are the mailroom clerk with a very small payout compared to middle management where it would actually make a difference
4. you waste 80% of your time creating dashboards to try and manage the business when you know intuitively how to fix the problem, and people don't even bother to really look at
5. senior leadership suck and blow at the same time - "we don't take shortcuts....unless it's going to save us money". And then the business suffers for years to come. Who implements a full SAP in 9 months?!
6. They blindly reband jobs so they eventually pay employees less salary
7. There is no work-life balance
8. Business tools are out-dated (laptops are falling apart, systems are slow, out-dated software (even MS Office!))
9. Senior management offers little to no insight on the industry or your role, so you are flying blind half the time
10. Unreasonable requests - drive 12 hrs cross-border in a car, instead of taking a flight for a business meeting (Toronto - St. Louis)
11. Canada gets no support from the Zone North American Leaders as a business unit
12. Growth opportunity stops just before the Director level

The list goes on and on of things that happen that show no regard to employees or their personal well being.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to invest dollars into your people (not left pocket, right pocket). Employees make so much personal sacrifice for the company. Don't cut from salaries and bonuses behind closed doors like everyone knows you do. Instead, challenge yourselves to invest in the people, and grow the top line.

And get rid of the executive leadership that has failed the organization for the last 2 years. They are nice guys, but offer no vision or leadership (some of which are socially inept and don't even look you in the eye when you talk face to face). They are just caught up in the ratrace. Find leaders that people want to follow and admire, and who can turn the sinking ship around.
