I have been working at Lam Research

    Pros

Ok pay and benefit, smart and nice colleagues, good environment, flexible working hours (depending on the direct report), challenging projects

    Cons

Long working hours, difficult to have work life balance, way too much politics between groups, leadership lacking at director level in new business group, ownership/accountability only applies to engineers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There seems to be a big disconnect between the management level and the engineers. Management level should spend more time knowing their engineers and reducing unnecessary politics.

I have been working at Lam Research

    Pros

High paced work environment with a focus on achievement
    Very capable and smart coworkers
Organizational values are defined and used
    Good salary, good education benefits
Credibility comes from knowledge and demonstrated ability to get things done

    Cons

Not for the timid- you must set your own course for development as no one will pull you along. If you're one to wait for an opportunity to be given in recognition then you'll always be waiting. Hard work- work life balance is respected, but you get the balance- you can't be at every family event, home by 5:30 and still expect to move up the ladder. Working at Lam requires real choices. Be prepared to stand up for yourself and your ideas- a room full of achievers means everything gets challenged- and be prepared to be wrong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the B players some resources to help them feel supported. The achievers can thrive in the "responsible for your own development" environment, but there are others with a lot to offer. Find ways to cultivate that talent.
