Current Contractor - Postdoctoral Research Associate in Lancaster, England (UK)

I have been working at Lancaster University as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, relaxed working environment, friendly co-workers, and most supervisors are knowledgeable and flexible. It's a great place to do research, and with the campus and many departments rapidly expanding it should continue to be for years to come.

    Cons

This isn't the best University if you are looking to go from working as a Postdoc to a lecturer. This is more of an issue for departments that aren't growing as quickly as the Uni as a whole, but still something to be aware of. Also, like every university there is a problem with excessive bureaucracy, but it seems to be improving.

It is a good place to work. The colleagues are very nice and friendly. In particular, the research in CS is very strong.

I worked at Lancaster University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The research atmosphere here is very good. You can grow a lot in terms of independent research and critical thinking. The university also provides varies training opportunities.

    Cons

As a researcher, it depends on the project. So the promotion is not that frequent. The town is a bit small though.
