I worked at Lands' End full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

The fitness center is great, but you only get a chance to use it in the morning or evening. Some of the people are OK, but that's about it.

Cons

Became a very cut-throat environment. Used to be collaborative and people worked together. When I left it was every person for themself and each department was working toward different end goals. Developing product that was more about what management wanted and not what the customer wanted.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your customers and don't think that you know what they want because you don't happen think the products they like are "who we want to be"

Full of people who have been there a long time ('peter principled' to their positions) & could not find a job elsewhere.

    I worked at Lands' End

    Pros

No need to work hard (working hard makes you stand out in a 'bad' way). Lots of time off...summer hrs basically give everyone every other Friday off. A lot like working for a government agency. Comer center is great benefit. Constantly having parties, treats and sweet days, reasons to party.

    Cons

Promotions based on yrs experience and LE knowledge and not skill or ability. If experienced person coming from outside, you will be targeted as a threat by 'townies' (fraternity of mid-level managers/long term employees local to area) unless you conform. Salary is lower than can be found in Madison. No team environment. People regularly get 'set up' to cover incompetent mangers and their bad decisions. Dismal attitudes by people there...very few seem to be happy to be there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in outside people with skills/experience and stop promoting based on yrs of service.

I have been working at Lands' End

    Pros

Really great benefits, including a great employee discount, on-site fitness center and back-up day care. Lots of great programs on site, from employee only sales, to family events, to fitness programs or hobby workshops.

    Cons

Unless you have a full-time permanent position, it can be hard to get hours when it's not busy, but if it's busy it's easy to pick up extra shifts.
