corporate use of language line services

I worked at LanguageLine Solutions

Pros

Once an account is opened, it's very easy to access services by phone from wherever you are and to whomever you are trying to reach. Services are generally accurate and professional. Never had a problem with the interpreter on the other line.

Cons

You don't really know the expertise level of the interpreter until you start the conversation. There is no way to know if all the fine points of the conversation including the person's attitude has been accurately conveyed. Always left with a feeling that maybe something was missed. But better than nothing. As an interpreter myself, I have heard some things that were missed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a rating system and a database of expertise types such a medical, legal, technical, scientific, mechanical, etc.. Also provide help with trauma issues since the interpreter has to hear some awful things that keep one awake nights.

    I worked at LanguageLine Solutions part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    They have a good trainning program for interpreters!

    Cons

    I would not reccomend a experience interpreter to work for this company, the salary is very low! It is a shame!

    More respect for interpreters!

    I have been working at LanguageLine Solutions

    Pros

    You work at home.
    If you are a good interpreter they leave you alone.

    Cons

    Embarrassing low pay for an interpreter. This is major corporation that saves major bucks because workers use their own computers, etc. They do not even pay for vacation time. Insurance is a joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Your employees are your greatest asset. Do your clients a favor and invest in professional interpreters.
