I worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory full-time (less than an year)

Pros

It was the best research experience for cyber-security and computer science majors. They help with many resources and encourage you to be the best of the best. In the end the combination of experience and knowledge acquired, will help you get into a full time job without any problem.

Cons

Housing is not the best
Taxes are really high in California
If you are a completely active person you may need to relax a little bit
Changes to project and deadlines happen so fast

I worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Incredibly intelligent people, but still down to earth personalities. Awesome technology. Pleasant surroundings. Nice amenities on the lab. Great town near by. Great think tank.

    Cons

They need more projects. Had a manager steal my idea and take credit in a meeting (others in the meeting knew it was not his idea), but he didn't fully understand the idea and when he made a mistake trying to implement it, he tried to blame me. Then when corrected in a meeting tried to once again take credit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your a little top heavy, and could gain by listening to some of the lower level people. Rewarding managers that take others ideas, because they can't do it on their own is not beneficial for LLNL. Cut the deadweight.

I have been working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

    Pros

Culture, work is interesting, work/life balance

    Cons

No education/training, too many levels of management. Compensation increases are non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do an "undercover boss" to find out what's really going on in the trenches. Figure out a way to get DECENT raises to the workers.
