Pros

The products are fun and for the most part you feel good about them because they're educational. Technology and innovation are really cool and represent the brand well.

Cons

This isn't brand management at all, it's product management. Executives drive initiatives without talking to one another so there's a ton of rework and last minute scrambles. There is no employee loyalty. Strategies have huge directional changes almost every 6 months.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a plan. Stick to it long enough to know whether it is working and how best to react. Communicate with your team. Recognize that your employees are working really, very hard.

Creative company with great products needs higher caliber of senior management, better high level oversight.

    Pros

Allows creativity in design, rewards aptitude with growth into other departments or areas (as isolated by interest and performance). High standard of product excellence.

    Cons

Senior management a big stumbling block to efficiency, causing unnecessary stress, wasted work and incurring extra project cost for no quantifiable benefit, more often than not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

New blood would be a good investment. Trust the middle management more, they generally are a competent bunch. Visualize ramifications of sweeping decisions before enacting them, think through the roll out of the same on small and large levels.

  2.

Cool technology, great people, but senior management is entrenched and needs new blood.

    Pros

Very cool technology and compelling products.

    Cons

Lots of legacy processes and management hierarchy. Difficult to move new ideas forward. Lots of politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more software engineering managers and VPs from the outside and adopt standard software development best practices. Leapfrog is entrenched in processes that only make sense from a hardware development perspective.
