Pros

Small company gives the ability to wear many hats, and meet a lot of people within the organization.

Cons

Poorly run company. A lot of fire fighting. If you are smart, then you probably be the smartest in the company and will be able to teach yourself alot. There are alot of knowledge & skill gaps within the company, though, so not a lot of opportunity to learn from capable leaders.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get up to speed with modern management practices. Hire good people in management, even if it mean paying more.

    Pros

Pay is competitive, and there is opportunity for professional advancement if you're willing to work hard for it.

    Cons

On the L85 program, work/life balance is not a priority. Most employees have at least two daily meetings that are mandatory, and it's not unusual to have the first before 8am and the second after 4pm. The program is in trouble, and everyone is very stressed by the fear of being blamed for failures that are no ones and everyone's fault.

I have been working at Learjet full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay in the aircraft industry is pretty good. The technology at the office is pretty up-to-date and reliable.

    Cons

The culture on the L85 program is crazed. Everyone is in panic and survival mode. Officially, the company favors work/life balance and employee health, but in practice, daily meetings are scheduled before 8 am and after 4:30 pm, everyone is expected to work overtime that they don't get paid for, and no one leaves the office for lunch or anything like that. There are some very good people working here, including management, but the actual upper-level management of this project has been erratic and reactionary. Stress and anxiety trickle down the ranks to everyone. If you're passionate about aircraft and want to work in the industry long-term, it is worth it to work here and try to climb the corporate ladder. If you're looking for a job that is a source of income rather than fulfillment, it's probably not worth the headaches to work here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be much more conservative when setting budget and scheduling goals. Give employees the time needed to do quality work. Fully evaluate program strategies before "pulling the trigger," we're having a rough time hitting the moving targets.
